Welcome to the abstracts from the North American
Research Conference on Complementary & Integrative Medicine
The North American Research Conference on Complementary
and Integrative Medicine was held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, May
24th-27th, 2006. This conference was sponsored by the Consortium of
Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (CAHCIM), which consists
of 30 leading academic medical centers from across North America.
The North American Research Conference on Complementary
& Integrative Medicine was international in scope and invited and encouraged
participation from CAM researchers, educators and providers as well
as conventional practitioners from around the world.
The North American Research Conference on Complementary
& Integrative Medicine showcased original scientific CAM research through
keynote and plenary presentations, oral and poster presentations, and
innovative scientific sessions. Areas of CAM research presented and
discussed at this conference included research in basic science, clinical
research, methodological research, health services research, and education
research. CAM researchers, educators and practitioners as well as conventional
practitioners attended.
The North American Research Conference on Complementary
& Integrative Medicine represented the first occasion that all 30 academic
Consortium centers and other leading national and international CAM
networks and organizations were invited to come together to meet and
share their research. This conference was intended to foster the development
of new collaborations and to strengthen existing partnerships.
