Grant Support for CAM Research Training

Speakers: Nancy Pearson, PhD, Peter Kozel, PhD, Laurie Friedman Donze, PhD

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), which is part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, is committed to providing funding for high quality CAM research training and career development for predoctoral and postdoctoral students, CAM practitioners, conventional medical researchers and practitioners, and members of populations underrepresented in scientific research who wish to pursue a CAM research career. The training of future generations of outstanding scientists committed to pursuing a research career in CAM is crucial for continued progress in research in complementary and integrative therapies.

The main goal of the symposium is to provide information to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and newly independent investigators about funding opportunities in CAM research training and career development from NCCAM. The audience will learn the goals of NCCAM's research training programs as well as the eligibility requirements and application instructions for applying for NCCAM research training-related grants. The process by which different types of training-related grant applications are reviewed will also be described. Finally, some new ideas for upcoming research training initiatives especially developed for individuals with CAM degrees, i.e. D.C., N.D., D.O., etc., will be discussed
